If you are planning to restrict access to your mail server on port 25 to Purity Networks' addresses (which we recommend), you'll need to allow access to the following addresses:

216.246.89.40

216.246.89.41

216.246.89.42

216.246.89.51

NOTE: Should these IP addresses change in the future, we will post notification on our blog at <http://www.purity.net/blog/>. We recommend you subscribe to the blog to get timely updates.

Customers with Sender Verification enabled on their mail servers need to disable it. If it is left enabled it will cause message failures when Sender Verification checks fail. This will then appear to our gateway to be a rejection of mail for the destination user and will cause all mail to fail for that user for the following 30 minutes.

Red Listing is a function that temporarily blocks mail from a mail server that has sent more “bad” mail than “good” mail.

Our gateways keep track of the ratio of “bad” (spam, RFC violations, sending to unknown users, sending from invalid from addresses) messages to “good” messages for each sending server, and when that ratio exceeds a predefined threshold, we tempoarily suspend the ability for that sending server to deliver mail through our gateways.

Customers with SPF checking enabled on their mail servers need to disable it. If it is left enabled it will cause message failures because the SPF check will fail for those sender domains that have an SPF record. The customer server will check to see if the Purity Networks gateway is a valid sender and of course, it will not be listed, causing the message to be failed.

The mail server address is where your email will get delivered to your mailbox. Purity Networks may detect your mail server address and the information will be entered automatically in the Mail Server field; for example, mail.domain.com.

In some cases, your mail server address may not be detected correctly. If you are not sure of the valid mail server address for your domain, contact your administrator to make sure you enter the correct information.

To report spam that slips past the filters, do the following:

Most email clients allow you to drag and drop messages from your inbox to a new message window. Open a new BLANK message to <spam@purity.net> and drag spam message to the message window.

NOTE: It is very important that your message be blank with no signatures or footers or text of any kind. If you include text in your message it may become a key for a new antispam rule, causing valid email with that text to be quarantined.

When configuring the MX record for your domain to point to the Purity Networks gateway in cPanel/WHM, you need to make sure that the Email Routing setting is set to Local Mail Exchanger. If you do not do this, cPanel/WHM will not accept mail for that domain when we try to deliver the mail.
