Account Manager API – What features are needed?

by George Roberts

Hi everyone,

We’ve been doing some work on the Account Manager API and I’d like some feedback on what everyone feels they need as far as functionality in the API.  First, let me say that at this time we’re only planning on implementing an API for ServerProtect accounts.  We may add some DomainProtect functionality at a later point, but we’re concentrating on basic add/delete/list type functionality for ServerProtect accounts at this time.

Currently, we have the following working:

listDomains – Returns a comma-separated list of domains mapped to the specified server
addDomain – Add a domain to the system, mapped to the specified server

We’ll have a deleteDomain function ready to go shortly as well.

So, after those three functions, what else is needed?

The API is implemented as a SOAP web service.  We’ll have easy to use PHP examples available when we release the API.

Hi, sounds good. Adding email addresses and aliases, and even auto approve feature if added by server admin.

Would be nice to have a plugin into Helm so new domains / emails / aliases were auto submitted to the system.

Keep up the good work and thanks for the great affordable service.

Is there currently anything in place which could send newly recognised mailboxes an email with their protectedmail login details?

I’m also keen to see the ability to add domain aliases automatically i.e from helm..

    Thanks

    Aaron,

With regards to the protectedmail.net question, no. That’s because we don’t generate accounts for everyone. They have to activate their account in order for it to be active.

That being said, we may add a function to the API to add/delete/list quarantine accounts for a specific domain. You could then write your own code to add an account and send an email. We wouldn’t handle the email to the end user part, but you could write that into your code.

Adding/deleting/listing domain aliases will be coming.

Cpanel integration when accounts are created, it’s the most used platform in hosting industry and that would simplify things for many of us, and give you a competitive advantage over other providers.

  5. George Roberts Says:

We likely will not be doing any specific platform integrations. We’re developing an API to allow anyone to do an integration to the platform of their choice. We don’t have the expertise to really develop for the different platforms.

  6. Bill Says:

whitelist administration. The one thing that keeps me from using this solution is the lack of whitelists.

  7. George Roberts Says:

Bill, there is no “lack of whitelists” … you can easily open a support ticket and request a whitelist and we will institute it for you.

That being said, whitelist management IS on our to do list for the service, but we have some other items that are a little higher priority to knock out first.
