New Live Quarantine Outlook Toolbar Available

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

We’re pleased to announce the new Live Quarantine Outlook Toolbar version 1.0.0 is available. Previous versions of this were called the “Protected Mail Outlook Add-in” … however, the new version supports our custom branding so it has been relabeled the Live Quarantine Outlook Toolbar.  The custom branding is supported by prompting the user for their quarantine email address and password before they access the quarantine from within Outlook.

You may also note that to support the viewing of messages from quarantine within Outlook we have changed the “view” screen from a new browser window to an “overlay” that pops up over the top of the quarantined messages list.  This is true for both people accessing quarantine from the toolbar as well as directly from the website.

The new toolbar is available from http://www.protectedmail.net/gettoolbar/ or from your custom quarantine URL /gettoolbar/ .

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Using the “Catch-all Report”

Friday, November 28th, 2008

If you have a ServerProtect account, you may not be aware that you have access to a “Catch-all Report” that will list domains that have a “catch-all” set up on them — that is, they accept mail for ALL addresses at that domain.

You can access this report by logging into the Account Manager and going to the Tools tab.  We ask that you remove the catch-all from any domains that show up in the report, as we do not support domains with catch-alls enabled.  At some point in the future we will begin automatically disabling mail services for domains that have catch-alls enabled until that situation is addressed.  We will, of course, notify you with a post here before we put such practice into place. For more information on why we don’t support catch-alls, see this knowledgebase article.

As always, if you have any questions, please contact us.

Great news from the front lines

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Thank you to Joe Mack of Host PC for contributing this article from cnet news:

http://news.cnet.com/8301-1009_3-10095730-83.html?tag=mncol;posts

We have seen a large reduction in the amount of spam our gateways are processing, but there is still quite a bit trying to get to your inbox.  This month alone, we have already blocked over 30 million malicious emails from getting to our customers’ inboxes.

Temporary update downtime

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

We have just received notice that our gateway updating process will be down from 9:00pm CST tonight until 1:00 am CST.  During this four hour period, our gateways will not be receiving antispam and antivirus definition updates.

You may see a small increase in the amount of spam messages received if a new strain is released during this time, but it will be temporary and slight.
