New Quarantine System Coming Soon

by George Roberts

We’re working on a new quarantine system that we’ll be putting out in beta within the next week or two.  I’m going to talk a bit about why we’re going to this new system and some of the exciting new features that this will offer to the users on your mail servers.

First, the reasoning.  As you may know, the current quarantine system is handled by the MailFoundry appliances that we use to protect your servers.  There are a couple of downsides to this:

  1. Each individual appliance manages its own quarantine system.  We’ve been looking at offering new services such as backup gateways that this would cause problems for (if your primary gateway went down your users could conceivably get multiple quarantine digest emails which isn’t a huge deal but annoying).
  2. The quarantine digests put quite a burden on the MailFoundry appliances when they are being sent.
  3. There is no system for real time access to the quarantine.

This leads right into some of the featueres of our new quarantine system:

  • Real time access to quarantine via the web and RSS
  • A centralized quarantine system being fed from all of our MailFoundry appliances
  • The quarantine load is removed from our antispam appliances and placed onto different servers
  • The ability to manage multiple email addresses through one quarantine login.  This is done through the use of “aliases” within the quarantine system.  If, for instance, a user has multiple email addresses that are protected by Easy Antispam, they can create their account for their primary email address and then add their aliases from the preferences page.  The email addresses that they add will be sent an email with a special verification URL to verify that they actually have control over that email address.  Once verified, the user will see the spam in the quarantine for their primary and all their aliases.
  • The ability for users to choose how they want to view their quarantine: They can view it in real time via the web, see a stream of quarantined mail via an RSS reader, or set up a daily quarantine digest email.  Realistically, they could use all three if they wanted to.  It gives users more flexibility in controling their quarantined mail.

We’re still working on the new system and it’s not quite feature complete yet, but it’s approximately 85% done.  We’re planning to have a beta period of at least a couple of weeks to get feedback and make some changes before starting to move everyone over to the new system.  If you’re interested in participating in the beta period, even with just a couple of domains, please email support@easyantispam.com and let us know.

I’ll write some more about the new quarantine in the coming days and weeks and try to explain some more of how things will work.  Feel free to post any questions as comments to this post and I’ll address them either as comment responses or in future postings.

Thank you for choosing Easy Antispam and we look forward to continuing to help protect your mail!
